A Plain English Guide to Extended Licences and Trading on Enmore Road

The Newtown Enmore Business Community, in consultation with Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW), has collaborated on a simplified, "plain English" guide to help licensed venues on Enmore Road access the extended trading hours now permitted under the Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP) status.

The Enmore Road SEP was established to celebrate and protect our precinct's status as a premier live entertainment and hospitality destination. While the policy changes allow for longer trading, navigating the specific licensing steps required to match the new planning allowances are complex.

The Problem: Clarity on Licensing

Following our meeting with Inner West Councillors Darcy Byrne and Chloe Smith, NEBC heard a clear message from our local pubs, bars, and restaurants: the opportunity for extended trading is welcome, but the exact pathway for amending their individual liquor licences needed clarification.

The Solution: A Collaborative Guide

In response, the NEBC District Coordinator, Heleana Genaus, initiated a direct consultation process with the licensing team at Liquor & Gaming NSW. The result is a concise, guide designed to cut through the bureaucratic jargon and provide a clear roadmap for our licensed venues.

"This guide is a key piece of work from the NEBC. We want to ensure that every eligible venue on Enmore Road can easily capitalise on the benefits of the SEP. Our close collaboration with L&GNSW means the steps are verified, clear, and specifically tailored to our precinct's new status," says Heleana Genaus, Secretary and District Coordinator.

What the Guide Covers:

The document you can download here, aims to clarify the specific application steps needed for venues to:

  • Match their liquor licence hours to the extended trading hours permitted under the Enmore Road SEP’s planning consent.

  • Understand eligibility requirements for additional incentives, such as the two hours of extended trading for venues that host live music or arts and cultural events, and potential reductions in annual licence fees.

  • Identify the necessary application forms and supporting documentation to streamline the submission process with L&GNSW.

  • Understand the Live Music and Performance Incentives and compare what is involved to other pathways.

Call for Feedback

The NEBC is committed to ensuring this guide is as practical as possible. We are asking all licensed members who use the document to send us your feedback.

  • Is the process clear and easy to follow?

  • Are there any obstacles or steps you find confusing?

  • What do you think could be better from L&GNSW and our guide?

Your input will help the NEBC refine its advocacy and ensure future compliance efforts are truly supportive of our local businesses.
