Cleanliness of Enmore Road Laneways
The Inner West Council is undertaking a 6-month trial to improve the state of a range of laneways off Enmore Road. The focus of the trial will include:
• Increase the street cleaning cycle
• Increase inspections of laneways to identify and manage illegal dumping
• Increase business inspections to ensure correct storage of bins and waste
• Undertake an audit of lighting in laneways to identify areas that would benefit from additional lighting
• Examine opportunities for to public art to help reduce graffiti and make the laneways more pleasant.
Council staff are currently in the process of undertaking business premises bin audits. In addition, Council have sent letters to residential properties about managing bins and booking clean ups.
In order to improve the laneways Council are asking NEBC members to complying with their obligations to store bins on their property and manage their business waste correctly as there are penalties for incorrect storage. Bins that are left on the street or laneways can create hazards for people, can block traffic and driveway/garage access, and can increase illegal dumping and litter on streets and lanes. Additionally, bins may be removed if considered abandoned and left on council property (Local Government Act NSW 1993). It is the responsibility of business operators to only put out the bins for collection the evening before and retrieve their bins as soon as practical after collection.
Should businesses have any questions or require additional information, please contact. Alicia or Ron by email on alicia.brogan@innerwest.nsw.gov.au or Ron.Cassar@innerwest.nsw.gov.au who are working with businesses to find suitable location for the bins
