Faces of Enmore

Portraits of a Community, with Laura Baxter, photographer and creator of Faces of Enmore

Laura Baxter never set out to document an era. She just wanted to capture a moment - a time stamp on the people, places and energy of Enmore as it stood in 2024. What began as a photographic project turned into something much bigger: a collaboration, a celebration, and a record of a community in all its raw, real and beautiful chaos.

“Enmore has always had this energy. It is connected in ways that are messy and creative and full of heart. I wanted to hold onto that, even just for a moment.”

Faces of Enmore is made up of portraits, street photography and honest, sometimes vulnerable conversations. It celebrates the spirit of the suburb: its openness, humour, pride, and unpredictable spark. It also highlights a strong network of collaboration — local businesses like The Duke, DJ Warehouse, PnV, Young Henrys and Doom Juice, community organisers, artists and residents who helped bring it to life. “The community really showed up,” Laura says. “People trusted the process. They gave their stories, and they supported something a bit different.”

The launch event was wild in the best way. “We wallpapered a pub with faces and places,” Laura laughs. “Who wallpapers a pub? But that’s exactly what Faces of Enmore is about. Messy, loud, creative and full of life.”

The project is now evolving into a book. It will include the portraits, the landscapes, and some of the strange and beautiful moments that unfolded in between. “It’s taking time, but I’m really proud of it,” Laura says.

“Like everything in Enmore, it’s not polished, but it’s full of heart.”

Looking back, the most rewarding part has not been the images themselves, but the unexpected connections they created. “It was never just about the photos. It was about people seeing each other, maybe properly, for the first time.”
