Michael Rodrigues, 24-Hour Economy Commissioner

The word “vibrancy” has become part of the Sydney vernacular as many of us go about rebuilding following years of lockouts and lockdowns. It’s a simple word but delivering on its promise requires many inputs from multiple stakeholders. A sensible regulatory environment is one factor, but to me the most important aspect is the businesses that put on the show: the venues and shopfronts that welcome residents and visitors alike. And when much loved businesses get together behind a unifying vision, great things are possible.

The Newtown Enmore Precinct is a shining example of this art of the possible. It’s one of those special places that is not only beloved by locals but also increasingly globally recognised. An area that welcomes visitors who are respectful of the local community.

But beyond its award-winning small bars and breweries, outstanding eateries and much-loved performance spaces, it is a nursery for Australian creativity. A spiritual home for artists, creators, cultural curators and city makers.

Our Office has been too proud to support the Newtown Enmore Precinct through our Uptown Program. And we are truly grateful to the executive for their leadership and you as member businesses for your participation in the chamber. Long may it continue. You make our city a better place to be.
