NEBC Precinct Map Consultation Session 1

A Big Thank You for Joining the NEBC Precinct Map Consultation Session!

We’re thrilled to share the success of our first Precinct Map Consultation Session, hosted by the Newtown Enmore Business Community (NEBC) with support from the City of Sydney. Together, we’re working on creating a district map—both in print and digital—designed to celebrate and represent the unique character of our vibrant neighbourhoods.

Lachlan Bruce of Good Decisions presenting the first round of designs for feedback.

Thanks to Your Input, We’re Making Great Progress!

At the session, the Good Decisions team presented their first round of designs. Thanks to our precinct satellites invaluable feedback, we’ve already taken significant steps in shaping a map that reflects the heart and soul of King Street, Erskineville Road, Australia St, Enmore Road and surrounds.

Early Insights from the Session

We’ve begun compiling the feedback shared during the event and through the forms you filled out. There’s still time to have your say — just complete our survey.

Here’s a quick look at some of the key suggestions so far:

  • Australia Street: Suggested to reflect a day precinct vibe with tones of sky blue, leafy greens, and references to local landmarks like parks and heritage buildings.

  • Enmore Road: Captures its vibrant nighttime energy with inspirations like golden sunsets, vivid art, and the iconic Enmore Theatre.

  • Erskineville Road: Evokes a village vibe with leafy greens, history of activism (Green Ban Park), and playful nods to local culture like the Imperial’s pink hi-vis.

  • King Street: Divided into “South” and “North” for clarity, with “Central” being tested. This approach could improve wayfinding and create a better sense of place.

General Themes

  • Prominent Street Art: Using these as landmarks and visual cues.

  • Day and Night Economy: Balancing the identities of areas active during the day versus nightlife hubs.

  • Place-Based Naming: Drawing on historical and cultural references from past maps to honor the community’s rich legacy.

  • Color Palette: Bold, distinctive colors for major roads and softer, harmonious tones for quieter, secondary streets like Australia Street and Wilson Street.

Get Involved!

The consultation is just beginning, and we’d love to hear more from you. Your voice is crucial in shaping the final map. If you haven’t already, fill out the survey and let us know what you think. Some early insights from the survey are shown in the graphs above.

You can also download the meeting minutes and the presentation to catch up on all the details.

What’s Next?

We’re excited to refine the designs further with your feedback as our guide. The next step will be to present the updated map at our next general meeting. We’ll share the date and location with members via email soon—stay tuned!

What and Who Are Precinct Satellites?

Precinct Satellites are sub-committees within the NEBC, each focusing on specific areas within our district. They play a key role in providing localised insights, gathering feedback, and representing the unique character of their neighborhoods in projects like the Precinct Map.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have dedicated community members acting as point people for these areas. Their contributions have been invaluable in shaping the project:

  • Enmore Rd: Dylan Howarth – Fortunate Son Bar Enmore

  • King Street - North : Stan Savellis and David Yates – That Retro Piece

  • King Street - South: Peter Samios – iDental Surgery

  • King Street - South: James Roe – Buddy's Bar

  • Australia Street: Rosie Boylan – Rosie Boylan Headwear

  • King Street - Central: Beverly Brock and Sonya Price-Kelly – The Social Outfit

  • Erskineville Road and King Street - South: Tyler Juel – Newtown Neighbourhood Centre

By working closely with these individuals, we’re ensuring that the voices of all parts of our community are heard and reflected in the Precinct Map, as we appreciate everyone is very busy and may not have time to get to every meeting we organise.

Thank you for your participation and for being part of this exciting journey. More to come!
