NEBC Post-AGM Outcome: A Year of Growth and a Vision for a 24/7 Unified Precinct

At our AGM on November 17, a year of successful growth and strong financial health, having secured $355,000 in grants. The new strategic vision focuses on creating a 24/7 Unified Precinct, pivoting away from the day/night divide to foster cross-pollination—encouraging night-time visitors to return for daytime retail. A new committee was elected, including President James Thorpe and new Executives Dylan Howarth, David Yates and Farhan Saeed, who join the committee in prioritising the stability of daytime retail and launching talk series for cross-sector learning.

Enmore Road – Unpacking the Special Entertainment Precinct Changes!

On Sept 9th 2025, we hosted a pivotal meeting at the Palomino Lounge, bringing together a fantastic cross-section of Enmore Road business owners, Inner West Council representatives including Mayor Darcy Byrne and Councillor Chloe Smith speaking to the Controls, and IWC Councillor Liz Atkins and City of Sydney Councillor Jess Miller in the audience. The energy in the room was palpable as we delved into the exciting, and sometimes complex, world of the Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP) changes and what they mean for our vibrant strip.

$23,000 Grants for Local Restaurants

We’re excited to share a fantastic opportunity with our members and subscribers in the food and hospitality industry. The IDA Foundation, in partnership with American Express, has just launched the 4th year of the Backing International Small Restaurants Grant Program — and it’s now open to small restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne, and New Zealand. Newtown icons, Little Lagos Bar and Bistro and Rising Sun Workshop are amongst previous recipients! The deadline to submit applications is Monday, June 30, 2025 at 11:59 pm ET.

Newtown Enmore District Launch

On a crisp evening at Odd Culture Newtown, more than 60 local business owners and creatives came together to launch something bold: a shared district identity for Newtown, Enmore and Erskineville.

With a new precinct map, brand, and the first edition of TOWNMAG, the launch marked a turning point for the NEBC — a grassroots business community building visibility, trust, and a clear voice for its members.

From vinyl spun by Papa Disco to heartfelt speeches (and a spreadsheet from our MC), the night celebrated everything that makes this precinct special: collaboration, character, and culture with edge. Showcasing the creative produced by Good Decisions in collaboration with our community.
