SUPPORT MUMS AND CHILDREN IN THIS YEAR’S SLEEP OUT

Community champions and local businesses are joining Newtown Neighbourhood Centre to sleep out on the rooftop of the Marrickville Metro carpark to support women and children experiencing homelessness.

Car Boot Sleep Out is NNC's most important fundraiser of the year. It's an immersive, confronting overnight experience designed to increase empathy and raise awareness about the devasting impact of homelessness. This year's theme shines a light on the impact homelessness has on women and children. From couch surfing to living in parks to sleeping in cars, women and children who experience homelessness are some of the community's most vulnerable across Australia. And it's closer to home than you think.

As the Centre's signature fundraiser, the participants are encouraged to seek donations from their friends, family, coworkers and customers. Participants are asked (along with anyone who will share their vehicle) to raise a minimum $1,000 per person.

The funds raised directly support the community by:

  • Funds the Centre’s Drop-In Hub for thousands of individuals who access the service each year

  • Funds the Homeless Response Worker who engages rough sleepers every day in the local area to offer support

  • Funds initiatives like the weekly Homeless Outreach patrol

On the night, participants will experience the challenges of rough sleeping. This is a unique opportunity to gain insight and understanding into homelessness and what you can do in your local community. This year, Inner West local mum Justine has graciously shared her and her daughter’s story of their lived experience with homelessness.

Local businesses can create a team and fundraise through activations in-store (raffles, karma kegs, donations at POS, etc.) or through their networks. It’s a great team building experience that support our Inner West community. To sign up, you can register at www.carbootsleepout.com.
